About the area
A residential suburb with a wartime name
Winston Hills is home to around 12,100 residents, about 28km west of Sydney CBD, split between The Hills Shire and the City of Parramatta. The suburb takes its name from Winston Churchill, Britain's wartime Prime Minister: developers named their 1965 estate "Winston Hills Estate" in the year he died, and it officially became a suburb in 1972.
The land has a working history too: it was once part of Governor Macquarie's "Model Farm" estate, and after the Second World War a wave of Italian and Maltese migrant families sustained orchards and market gardens here well into the 20th century, before the suburban estate took shape.
Today the suburb's hub is Winston Hills Mall on Caroline Chisholm Drive. From here it's about 4km / 8 min drive (est.) to Crestwood High School's oval in Baulkham Hills, where Football Collective trains.
